Abies concolor - White Firs

White Fir is a beautiful conifer that is native to the mountainous areas of the western U.S. It is narrowly pyramidal in shape with the upper branches curving up and the lower ones drooping down. Its 2.5” long, blue-green needles give it a soft, graceful look. The 3”-6” long upright cones are yellow-green when young, maturing to a brownish-purple. White Fir grows at a rate of about 12” per year and becomes 10’H × 5’W in 10 years and 40’-70’H × 20’-30’W at maturity in a landscape setting. It grows in rich, deep, acidic, well-draining soils in sun to partial shade.
