Korean Pine is native to the mountainous areas of Japan and Korea, and from China to Russia. When young, it is pyramidal, loosening to a broad pyramidal shape with horizontal branches reaching the ground as the tree matures. It grows 30’-50’H × 25’-35’W at maturity, and grows at a rate of more than 12’ per year. It reaches 12’-20’H × 10’-15’W in 10 years. The blue-green needles are 4”-5” long, and the 3”-6” brown seed cones are a source of edible pine nuts. Korean Pine grows best in full sun, but will tolerate light shade for part of the day. It prefers moist, loamy soil with a high organic content that is well-draining, and is hardy to USDA zones 3 to 8.
