Thujopsis is a close relative of Arborvitae (Thuja) in the Cypress family. It is native to Japan and has only one species in the genus — T. dolobrata. It is pyramidal in form, and its deep green sprays of scale-like foliage are similar to those of Thuja, only thicker and bolder, and the oval seed cones are .5 inches. In 10 years, Thujopsis grows to 15’H × 6’W, and 50’H × 20’W at maturity. It grows well in full sun to open, light shade in average, but well-draining soil. It is hardy to USDA zones 6 to 9.
